Innovative compounds with positive ecological balance

Innovative compounds with positive ecological balance

News 25.04.2018

ALBIS Plastics Corporation, a global distributor and compounder of technical thermoplastics, has announced that many of its compounds are now produced locally at the newly installed Duncan, S.C. facility. The company will highlight those materials along with the entire portfolio of high-performance plastics, compound solutions, and masterbatches at NPE2018 May 7-11 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

ALBIS is now producing ALTECH® Prime and ALTECH® ECO (Near-to-Prime® Recycled Compounds) at its Duncan plant which opened last October. ALTECH® ECO compounds meet the growing demand for recycled plastics which is spurred by the industry’s more limited use of fossil resources and more environmentally-conscious consumers. They are based on post-industrial feedstock and provide recycled content of up to 100% for a range of applications. They are characterized by a positive ecological balance, "Near-to-Prime®" quality, tailor-made features, cost efficiency, and good workability.

"Our more than 50-year commitment to the U.S. market has been strengthened by the opening of our new plant in Duncan,” said Stefan Fuhlendorf, President and CEO of ALBIS Plastics Corporation. “This enables us to offer our NAFTA-based customers local production using global specifications. We are really looking forward to present our latest products at NPE."

At the show, ALBIS will also highlight ALCOM® LDX HTC, light-diffusing copolyester-based compounds that offer strong light transmission and diffusion as well as excellent chemical and impact resistance. They are ideal as light covers in challenging environmental conditions such as animal sheds, commercial kitchens, or industrial facilities. They can be used for extrusion and injection molding applications.

Other new materials include ALCOM®TCD PA6 5060 FR 16089 and ALCOM® TCD PA6 5070 FR 15021 WT which are thermally conductive and electrically insulating polyamide 6-based compounds used for efficient heat management. They significantly improve the service life and efficiency of LED applications and meet flame retardant requirements per UL94 V-0. Two silver-gray metallic colors have been developed, based on ALCOM® TCD PA6 5060, which are suitable for thermally conductive decorative elements or as "cool -touch" housing components.

ALPERFORM® LD and LDX-Batch are flexible and cost-effective solutions for light-diffusing coloring of polycarbonate and PMMA. They enable a quick and simple adaptation of optical properties by individual dosing within the handling process to optimize transmission and light diffusion, increase light efficiency, and prevent annoying hot spots.

Meanwhile, ALPERFORM® LB-Batch is a new masterbatch solution which enables flexible dosing. It is also distinguished by its cost efficiency in the self-coloring of ABS and PC for highly reflective and opaque components, including lamp housings and extrusion profiles for linear LED applications.

ALBIS will also highlight compounds based on recycled carbon fiber from CFRP production remnants in the automotive and aviation industries. The company’s WIC PP and WIC PA products could replace relatively heavy highly-concentrated glass fiber PA compounds with lighter PP CF compounds at up to a 30% weight reduction. At the same time, the PP carbon fiber components are more cost-effective due to their lower density.
