Offering bio-attributed energy-curable solutions

News 03.05.2025

Arkema, a leader in specialty materials, has earned ISCC PLUS certification of its specialty (meth) acrylate oligomers and monomers production sites in Chatham, Va. and West Chester, Pa. (US). As a result, Arkema can now offer bio-attributed energy-curable solutions from their UV-LED-EB resin production facilities worldwide.

This network includes the recently certified sites in the US as well as in Nansha, China and Villers-St-Paul, France. These Sartomer® solutions are used across a wide range of applications, including performance coatings, adhesives, inks, electronics, green mobility, living comfort, 3D printing and more.

"ISCC PLUS is an important certification for our industry, and we can now offer customers worldwide access to our bio-attributed UV-LED-EB oligomers and monomers. This achievement also expands our network of certified facilities in support of diverse industries and technologies, helping companies across the value chain to reach their objectives of carbon footprint reduction."
Stephanie Montag, Regional President at Sartomer® Americas

The range of Sartomer® bio-attributed solutions helps to reduce the product carbon footprint and reinforces the established bio-based offer, which includes oligomers and monomers with up to 85% biobased content. Select products also feature the USDA Certified Biobased Product label through the USDA BioPreferred® Program.

The ISCC PLUS certification of products made at these Arkema manufacturing site adds to the Arkema Coating Solutions certifications worldwide. Arkema’s strategy is to progressively introduce a complete range of bio-attributed specialty resins and additives, including high solids, waterborne, UV-LED-EB, and polyester powder materials.

Mass balance provides manufacturers with a methodology to track the certified materials as they move along the value chain and attribute the inputs of a production process, to outputs of that production process through certified bookkeeping. This distinct accounting method verifies that the certified feedstock has replaced an equivalent quantity of fossil raw materials at the beginning of the supply chain and can be attributed to the product-to-be-sold, ensuring that both input and output are balanced. A bio-attributed content indicates that the use of a biobased feedstock has been ascribed using a mass-balance methodology. The bio-attributed content is the % breakdown based on the ISCC+ methodology calculation. It is a clear distinction to materials in which the biobased content can be verified using the radiocarbon method. [Source Arkema]
