West Bengal plastic industry to benefit from Plastindia 2018

With a per capita consumption that is a mere 5 kg per annum as against 12 kg and growing at 15% nationally every year, the plastic industry in West Bengal is putting up rapid growth to catch up with the national average. The plastic industry is adapting to latest technologies in manufacturing. This is evident from a large contingent of West Bengal based businesses participating in PLASTINDIA 2018, the 10th edition of international plastics exhibition, conference and convention to be held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat in February 2018.

Speaking to many industrialists from West Bengal, it is evident that the Plastics Industry is looking at PLASTINDIA 2018 with a focus on adopting modern project machines, ancillary equipment and raw materials. The enthusiasm also comes from the fact that West Bengal state government initiating a slew of infrastructural reforms and on an overdrive to attract investments into the state.

K K Seksaria, President, Plastindia Foundation mentions “West Bengal is among the fastest growing states in plastics consumption currently. Apart from smooth supply of raw material by Haldia Petrochemicals, new petrochemical plant of Brahmaputra Crackers & Polymers Ltd (BCPL) in Assam and upcoming Polypropylene plant of Indian Oil at Paradip, Orissa will increase raw material supply substantially in eastern India and encourage growth of plastics industries in West Bengal and eastern India. Plastindia Foundation is making all attempts to further quicken the pace of growth by offering platforms like PLASTINDIA 2018, with five industry focused pavilions on Composite Material, Automotives, Medical and Health Care, Sports and 3D Printing and Prototyping. The entrepreneur from West Bengal will be brought in line with the speed of the world’s best”.

Briefing the media about Plastindia 2018, Rajeev Chitalia, Chairman, National Executive  Committee, says, “This will be the biggest ever Plastics trade fair in India. With over 200,000 industry visitors, 2000 exhibitors including global leaders like Exxon Mobil, Dow Chemicals, Reifenhauser GMBH etc from across 40 countries, this will be an opportunity no industry participant can afford to miss. We will share knowledge through various conferences and conventions, create interacting platforms like Reverse Buyer-Seller Meets, pre-approved loans from HDFC bank, etc., this event is all about empowering global growth for India’s Plastics Industry.” Continuing Chitalia affirms, “by 2020, India will be the third largest consumer of plastics with over 2 million tonnes of annual consumption in agriculture itself. In the next five years, India’s packaging industry will double plastic consumption and the per capita consumption is likely to treble. In our industry, we are no longer asking What Is Next, but stating that Next Is Here.”

PLASTINDIA 2018, a triennial event in its 10th edition, would be second-largest in world and largest in south-east Asia. The event is supported by Government of India, Government of Gujarat and iNDEXTb.
