Arburg at Plastec West 2019

News 27.12.2018

At Plastec West 2019, which will be held in Anaheim/CA (USA) from 5 to 7 February, ARBURG will demonstrate two sophisticated injection moulding applications on an electric and a vertical ALLROUNDER.

Turnkey “Made in USA” expertise
“Our team of experienced application technology specialists and project and service engineers uses its extensive know-how to create sophisticated turnkey systems in close cooperation with customers. In Anaheim, we will show a 'Made in USA' production cell with a unique space-saving design, used to overmould metal inserts to produce radius gauges, as well as a clean-room version ALLROUNDER for medical technology applications”, says Friedrich Kanz, Managing Director of ARBURG Inc.

ALLROUNDER 375 V: Automated overmoulding of inserts
At Plastec West, a fully automated turnkey system built around a vertical Allrounder 375 V will produce a variety of radius gauges. Handling is performed by a compact MULTILIFT SELECT linear robot system placed on the machine. On two mould stations, the metal inserts will be overmoulded with 30% fibreglass-reinforced PA 6.6 using two different methods – in a cycle time of around 45 s. For the first version, the robot system first subjects the metal components to a plasma pretreatment and inserts them into the first mould station, where the plastic is moulded onto the plasma-pretreated surface. In the second version, an untreated insert is placed into the second station and the plastic is moulded onto the metal component on both sides, creating a mechanical connection. The radius gauges are then taken out and removed from the production cell.

ALLROUNDER 370 A for medical technology
The high-performance ALLDRIVE series will be represented by a clean-room version of the electric ALLROUNDER 370 A. This machine manufactures components for medical technology used in minimally invasive surgery (trocars). A clean-air module with air ionisation above the clamping unit provides low-particle air in the working area. Thanks to preliminary and HEPA filters, it ensures a high level of air circulation and neutralises electrically charged moulded parts. The machine can be docked with a clean room by means of a conveyor belt.
