It seems the “strategic realignment” of injection moulder Ferromatik Milacron was not as successful as recent reports appeared to have suggested. On 10 March, the company said it will move its entire machinery production from Malterdingen to the Czech Republic. The only activities that will remain at the German site will be administration, sales and service. As a result of the shift, the company will cut another 132 of the remaining 241 jobs. It has already begun discussions with the employees affected, Ferromatic Milacron said.
The measure will not affect any other Milacron or Ferromatic sites, the subsidiary of US machinery maker Milacron said, adding that the company will continue to have a “very strong presence in Germany and in the region surrounding Malterdingen.” The changes are expected to raise efficiency, and in so doing “guarantee Milacron’s business dealings in Europe in the long term,” said Ferromatik Milacron managing director Denis Poelman.
Last year Milacron moved its entire European Uniloy Milacron blow moulding machinery operations from Italy to the Czech Republic (see Plasteurope.com of 17.04.2015). The company recently reported a decline in sales, whereas its operative result – while negative – still improved slightly in 2015.
