To deliver innovative automotive lighting

News 19.07.2021

TactoTek®, the Finland-based company that develops and licenses Injection Molded Structural Electronics (IMSE®) technology, and Lightworks Gmbh, a leading automotive lighting system design and engineering enterprise, today announced that Lightworks has licensed TactoTek’s IMSE Designer®. With IMSE Designer Lightworks is designing injection molded structural electronics (IMSE®) solutions that enhance functional and ambient illumination in the vehicles of leading automotive OEMs.

Lightworks specializes in lighting system development for vehicle interior and exterior lighting applications. OEMs often work together with the company to reflect and emphasize their brand language using smart functional and ambient illumination. In their designs, Lightworks will combine IMSE and conventional illumination system elements to realize their customers’ design vision. The 2022 BMW iX is a tangible example of how Lightworks has integrated different styles of illumination into a cohesive illumination package.

“The use of lighting is expanding significantly in vehicles and is a meaningful differentiator for OEMs. At Lightworks we strive to create innovative designs in which system elements are a fusion of styling, function, and efficiency,” said Michael Hoefgen, CEO of Lightworks. “IMSE lighting solutions are valuable additions to our design portfolio because they can deliver stunning lighting in ultra-thin, conformal 3D structures that are easily integrated, even in unconventional and space-restricted locations.”

TactoTek IMSE technology combines structure, electronic functions, and cosmetics in light, thin, and rugged smart surfaces. Popular uses for IMSE parts include control panels, functional and styling illumination in automotive, home appliance and smart home markets.

According to Jussi Harvela, TactoTek CEO, “Witnessing Lightworks’ skill in applying IMSE technology to lighting designs has been inspiring: their design creativity builds on a foundation of optics, electronics, mechanics and industrialization expertise combined with deep understanding of OEMs’ design language. They quickly identified compelling design opportunities aligned with IMSE technology benefits. In addition, with Lightworks’ virtual reality environment, their customers can visualize designs early in the creative process. I can recommend Lightworks as the most advanced IMSE lighting design consultant, without reservation.”
