January 24 to 26, 2017, visitors of Swiss Plastics 2017 in Lucerne (Switzerland) will be among the first witnesses to the cost-efficient solution developed by Arburg for automated manufacture of quality electrical parts. On an Allrounder 470 E Golden Electric machine from the new entry-level series connectors will be produced to demonstrate the potential of this technology for the electrical industry. The highly standardized machine, equipped with Multilift Select linear robot, boasts an outstanding price/performance ratio.
Marcel Spadini, the manager of Arburg subsidiary in Switzerland, says, “Our customers in Switzerland are increasingly turning to electric injection molding technology. Most of the machines we supply have electric drives.” The high-end all-electric Alldrive machines can be tailored to specific high-performance applications. In turn, Golden Electric series launched this spring is focused on entry-level manufacturers in injection molding of electric parts. Just as the successful hydraulic Golden Edition series, the new electric one is consistently standardized in order to reach a previously unattainable price/performance ratio. Being standardized means that machine parameters such as injection unit size, tie-bar spacing and clamping force are fixed as a group.
Precision, high performance and energy efficiency
Technical injection molding at Swiss Plastics 2017: an Allrounder Golden Electric machine will demonstrate PP connector production for the electrical sector. |
Allrounder Golden Electric exists in four sizes from 600 to 2,000 kN. Processing cycles are fast and performant thanks to double 5-point toggle. No-float spindle drives guarantee high precision, while the adjustable screw enhances molded part quality. Other features of the new electric series include motors with liquid cooling and servo inverters. Apart from power efficiency, dry cycle times are shortened, and the process is highly reproducible.
In comparison with traditional hydraulic machines, high-performance servomotors, energy recovery at braking and smart power adaptation result in power savings of up to 55%. Maintenance is also made easier through plug-in cylinder design, swiveling injection unit, and better cooling and lubrication.
Designed for quality technical parts
Entry-level electric IMMs are principally used for reproducible cost-efficient production of high-quality electrical components. Arburg will confirm this at Swiss Plastics 2017 by molding PP electric parts on a 1,000 kN Allrounder 470 E Golden Electric in a cycle time of 18 s only. The machine, equipped with a size 290 injection unit, will produce sixteen 2 g connectors for Skintop® screw fittings of M12 size per cycle. Said fittings are used for fastening, centering and sealing power cables; they can additionally provide a strain relief feature.
Cost-efficient solution for automation
Multilift Select linear robotic system used for handling molded parts is also an entry-level model from the Arburg portfolio. It is equipped with servo-electric drives and completely integrated in Selogica control system. Thus, the operator only has one data set and uses a familiar approach for programming. The robotic system and the machine are perfectly synchronized. Furthermore, the teach-in function makes programming of Multilift Select particularly easy. The result is very advantageous: programming and conversion are definitely shortened, handling sequences are unfailing and training costs are highly reduced.
