ProTec presents high-precision batch dosing unit at Interplastica

News 13.12.2017

For the first time on the Russian market, ProTec, the one-stop shop supplier to the plastics industry, is presenting its new range of high-precision gravimetric SOMOS Batchmix batch dosing systems at Interplastica show. These systems are capable of accurately preparing a formulation of up to six flowable components and holding it ready for further processing. In addition to ensuring high reproducibility and being easy to maintain, the SOMOS Batchmix range is characterized by ease of operation, so facilitating material and product changes.

The range is available in three sizes (M, L, XL) with different throughputs, the "M" unit shown at the trade fair being capable of handing up to 240 kg/h and the "XL" unit as much as 1,900 kg/h. In addition to pellets and additives, regrind with a bulk density of as low as 400 g/l can also be processed.

Tried and trusted German quality

On the basis of its previous batch dosing units, ProTec has completely updated the mechanical and aesthetic design of the new SOMOS Batchmix series while retaining the tried and trusted operating concept. Two load cells, one fitted to the weighing bin and one to the downstream mixing bin, ensure perfectly reproducible mixing results. The only commercially available batch dosing units to have been completely developed and manufactured in Germany, the Batchmix series is built to last and provide top performance.

Flexible material discharge
The modular structure of the SOMOS Batchmix machines also ensures flexibility. For instance, the units can be set up for four or six components and subsequent retrofitting is no problem. In addition, Batchmix models are simple and quick to install, either on an extruder or a stand. The substructure already has an integral transport unit.

Easy to operate and maintain
ProTec attaches huge importance to user friendliness during product development. The lid of the batch dosing unit can be quickly removed for maintenance, the storage bins have generously sized cleaning openings and are easy to remove, even when full.

Like all SOMOS dryers and dosing units, the Batchmix is fitted with a network-compatible PLC controller. As a result, if a customer so wishes, the batch dosing unit can be networked with the processing machine and other peripherals from the SOMOS range. Option packages mean the units can be adapted for use in an Industry 4.0 setting.
The SOMOS control/professional controller is user-friendly and intuitive, all significant functions being accessible on a 6" touchscreen. Standard interfaces are available for exchanging data with external partners, for instance for importing and exporting formulations. A self-optimization function moreover quickly and reliably adapts dosing of individual components to changing circumstances.

In addition to the Batchmix, ProTec is also showing one of its mobile auxiliary dryers, the high-temperature version of the SOMOS RDM-70/200.

The mobile unit comprising dry air generator and single chamber drying bin operates at air temperatures of 60 to 180°C and has an effective volume of 200 l. Auxiliary dryers may be used, for example, to supply processing machinery with a frequently changing feedstock.

The RDM range can handle throughputs of 5 to 150 kg/h while the special bin geometry ensures optimum air distribution and thus particularly uniform and rapid drying. If required, the processing machine can be directly fitted with a suction conveyor for automatic feedstock supply.

Long fiber compounds and post-processing units
As well as efficient materials handling solutions, ProTec can also supply complete LFT pultrusion lines for manufacturing long fiber reinforced thermoplastics. Applications of such plastics include for example the manufacture of light-weight automotive and aerospace components. The product range is rounded out by solid-state post-condensation units for polyamides and polyesters and bottle-to-bottle recycling lines.
