Husky, a pioneering process engineering specialist in the plastics industry, is currently displaying its wide range of solutions for PET preform molding at K 2016. Among them, trade show visitors can get firsthand experience of the recent Multi-Layer Barrier Technology. This state-of-the-art technology makes it possible to replace traditional packaging solutions with more eye-catching PET with improved product protection.
Vice-President for Barrier Solutions of the company, Dave Morton, stated, “Husky has always invested in helping our customers grow their businesses through development of novel and innovative technologies that push the boundaries of possible today. Our Multi-Layer Barrier Technology represents the next step in this initiative. […] We are excited about the positive results we’ve seen with early adopters and are even more about how this technology will create new opportunities for our customers, allowing them to explore PET as a packaging material for products requiring the safety of enhanced barrier properties, traditionally packaged in glass, carton or aluminum.”
The Multi-Layer Barrier Technology has already been warmly received. Husky’s proprietary high-performance HyPET® HPP5 platform provides the background for the technology, boasting maintenance ease and dosing precision when it comes to the barrier layer. This last feature also makes the technology more sustainable, since less raw material is used to create the barrier. New materials supporting recyclability can as well be adopted.
A dedicated Experience Center created by Husky for K 2016 is emphasizing the capabilities of the new technology: it can work with various barrier types for packing different beverages and liquids, e.g. sodas, teas, juices, dairy products or sauces. A Multi-Layer Barrier hot runner featuring advanced melt supply and co-injection is also being showcased. Thanks to improved controls, the hot runner distributes barrier layer material evenly with maximum precision.
Husky develops advanced solutions that allow bringing PET preform injection molding capabilities to previously unattainable levels. The company invites its customers to work jointly on new applications, which results in more innovative solutions brought to world market compared to any direct competitor. At the ongoing K show, Husky puts on display an extensive range of injection molding technologies for any specific size or task. The company’s commitment to process optimization, reduction of risks and part cost for its customers is being accentuated.
Following the rewarding partnership with Intravis Vision Systems, Husky’s another highlight is the exclusive preform inspection system named LayerWatcher. The system is designed to monitor barrier protection and package integrity by using coherent infrared lighting. The LayerWatcher acquires data at high rates, which allows for a perfect 3D reconstruction layer-by-layer with visualized preform sections. The system is optimally fit for barrier precision measurements, whatever color or translucency a preform may be. Machine operator can easily evaluate the quality of a barrier layer when looking at scan images provided by the LayerWatcher. K Show visitors are benefitting from live demonstrations of the system.
